The Year was 2020...
In the early days of the pandemic I was addicted to the press conferences. But I had, you know, stuff to do. These things never started on time, and I would be distracted, craning my head to see the TV (or dedicating a whole monitor to it) to see if it started. Wouldn't it be nice, I thought, if the damned thing would just ping me when it finally started.
So, I set out to design a feature to do that. And then there was some feature creep and I redid some layout and so on. The prototypes are not ready for prime time, but here's some of the history of how I came this far.

Storyboard... Comic Book Style
I continue to work on my sketching. Straight lines like the ones above are pretty good, and you can see some details like the gray shadows, which are nice. But nudge out of those basic shapes and, well...
At the time I was designing this app I hadn't taken a design thinking course. For me this was a way of defining the problem statement and "How might we," and even creating a bit of a user persona, well before I knew what any of those things were.

I also had some ideas for redesigning the media center, but that's a challenge for another day.

I have some files with the mock-ups, but since the time I did this Adobe added states to XD - ridiculously exciting, and so I will be able to animate some of the most critical pieces of the interface. Stay tuned! (Ha ha ha)
